"Democracies are indeed slow to make war, but once embarked upon a martial venture are equally slow to make peace and reluctant to make a tolerable, rather than a vindictive, peace." --Reinhold NiebuhrOkay, people.
Listen, I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but seriously.
In the past two days I have been approached by five different, radically opposite individuals who asked me to research a military operation known as Jade Helm 15.
Given my non-conspiratorial personality, I wasn't immediately intrigued. However, last night as I climbed into bed, I decided to research this strangely named topic of conversation.
And, well, holy moly....
After Googling the term and reading approximately 30 articles regarding the domestic, covert military operation, I admit, my interest was peaked and my heart was racing.
Firstly, please allow me to explain what Jade Helm 15 is for those, who, like myself, might not be familiar with the story.
Basically, Jade Helm 15 is the operational name for a military exercise that will take place on American soil this summer. It will primarily involve special operations personnel and military air power. The U.S. military has acknowledged the operation and has released certain unclassified facts regarding its nature. The Washington Post describes Jade Helm as a,
"mission [that] is vast both geographically and strategically: Elite service members from four branches of the U.S. military will launch an operation this summer in which they will operate covertly among the U.S. public and travel from state to state in military aircraft. Texas, Utah and a section of southern California are labeled as hostile territory, and New Mexico isn’t much friendlier. That’s the scheme for Jade Helm 15, a new Special Operations exercise that runs from July 15 to Sept."
Here is what the unclassified map looks like:
Now, in the spirit of openness and honesty, this sort of military training action isn't unprecedented. Last night, I was able to find three examples of this type of military maneuver involving covert forces moving among America citizens and/or labeling states as hostile territories. Sure, it still kind of makes me scratch my head and feel a little bit queasy but, if the story ended here, I could probably just chalk this up to a necessary drill and move on.
However, that isn't where this story ends.
Walmart has announced the closure of stores in the states taking part in the exercise. Walmart cites the need for maintenance to these stores plumbing systems as the reason for their closures. However, there have been no requests for or permits issued for the plumbing updates.
All the Walmart stores involved in the closures are supercenters. You know, large. Huge. Big enough to house or detain loads of people.
Wait, before you roll your eyes and write me off as some nut job who needs shock therapy, stop and think. Don't be so arrogant that you don't think bad things happen to good people in great nations.
Because history is not on the side of that argument.
And it isn't just our past...
We have already seen riots destroy a city and martial law implemented in an American city this week. I'm not debating whether or not it was right or necessary, I am simply stating fact. Baltimore, Maryland was put under martial law last week: armed military personnel on the streets, curfews, etc.
I'm just sayin'.
Republican Presidential hopeful and Texas Senator Ted Cruz has openly admitted that he has requested additional information and answers regarding Jade Helm. Guys, we're talking about a man who has the Constitution of the United States of America memorized. The fact that someone with our inalienable rights committed to memory is showing interest and concern over this maneuver makes me wonder. It makes me nervous, too.
Newly elected Texas Governor Greg Abbott has tasked the Texas National Guard with closely monitoring the special operation. State military personnel observing federal military personnel.
Well, that's good. I guess.
Now, listen, Texans are notoriously supportive of our military and committed to America's national defense. Perhaps, that is why the military selected the states they did--if you look at the demographics of the involved states, they are very pro-military.
And our military IS necessary.
And training is vital.
And with the deep, debilitating cuts this lovely administration has made to our defense budget and military, it is no wonder that the military is having to get creative and conduct covert training closer to home.
After all, the nature of warfare is changing and it makes sense that our military personnel will need to adapt.
We are fighting wars covertly and in cities.
We are facing an enemy without uniforms and conventional munitions.
We are fighting an enemy that blends into their surroundings.
We are facing threats with American accents and blue eyes.
Like it or not, we are facing enemies, deadly vicious enemies, from within.
So, here's a word to the wise: get your guns, ammo and Bibles. And start clinging.
This world and our nation are achangin'. And not for the better. However, if we are rooted in our faith and armed with weapons of resistance, those who are power hungry and agenda driven, will have a harder time rounding us up, numbering us and forcing us conform to the desires of their political will.
Be informed and shoot straight. Knowledge and ammunition are powerful instruments for both change and protection. Trust me, it is our right to know what is going on and to protect ourselves and our families. It is not only our right, it is our duty.
Yeah, I know. All this seems far fetched and completely dramatic.
That's probably what the Jews, Russians, Poles, gypsies, homosexuals and ten of thousands of others thought before they were rounded up and put into cattle cars and shipped to Nazi concentration and death camps.
That's probably what the Japanese Americans thought before they were rounded up and imprisoned during World War II.
That's probably what every American would have said moments before three hijacked airliners slammed into American buildings on 9/11.
That's probably what the citizens of Baltimore thought before last week happened.
Sometimes the far fetched becomes reality and the dramatic actually happens.
But, hey, maybe I'm wrong, sleep deprived and need to get a life.
I sure as hell hope so...
